Today, Jackson has the nickname the “crossroads of the south.” It lies halfway between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Memphis, Tennessee, on Interstate 55 and between Birmingham, Alabama, and Shreveport, Louisiana, on Interstate 20. Locals also have called it the “city of soul” because of its lively music scene, featuring gospel, jazz, blues, and folk musicians.
Soul food in Jackson is another point of pride—for good reason.
