Motown Square Pizza

My name is Paulos Belay and I am a native Detroiter, with roots in Ethiopia and Mississippi. After culinary school, I relocated to D.C. with my wife, Anna. After my first six months here, I got really homesick. One of the things I missed most was Detroit style pizza. I couldn’t afford a ticket home, so I turned to making my own pizza. I did a lot of experimenting in my apartment at least three times a week, making pizza for family and friends. After many failed pizza experiments, two years of planning, and support from my wife, family and friends, I have finally started “Motown Square Pizza”. I don’t think Detroit style pizza gets a fair shake in the pizza world, however I have noticed recently that it’s trending and gaining popularity. Because of this, the most important thing for me was not only making a great pizza, but making an authentic product that everyone at home would be proud of. I’m excited to share my passion with others, and continue to build community through food. Thanks for sharing in this journey with me!
