RECLAMATION: /ˌrekləˈmāSH(ə)n/ Reclamation is a craft cocktail that reclaims and celebrates black culture and cuisines. People are not defined by what they eat & the manner in which they consume it. Let’s all enjoy all things, in all ways, in all places. Cheers!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 oz Maker’s Mark Cask Strength
  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz Ancho Reyes Verde Liqueur (green bottle)
  • 1 1/2oz Watermelon Lime Mint Mixer (recipe below)
  • 1 1/2 oz Fever Tree Ginger Beer
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Instructions

You can juice your fresh watermelon, purchase fresh watermelon juice or blend watermelon into a purée and strain with a cheese cloth. Double strain both methods. (Directions for mixer are below).

Add watermelon lime mint mixer, Ancho Reyes Verde Liqueur, Grand Marnier and Maker’s Mark to shaker tin. Add lots of ice. Shake. Fill hollowed half of baby watermelon with ice. Double strain cocktail into baby watermelon over small square ice cubes & 3 watermelon balls (not grilled). Fill with Fever Tree Ginger Beer. Add two dashes of Angostura Bitters. Stir.

Watermelon Lime Mint Mixer
  • 16 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice (Seeded Watermelon remove seeds)
  • 3 oz lime juice
  • 2 oz pure cane sugar granulated white
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 8 mint leaves

Blend 16 oz Fresh Seeded Watermelon Juice (remove seeds), 3 oz fresh lime juice, 2 oz Pure Cane Sugar Granulated White, 1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract, 1/4 tsp sea salt. Reserve 8 oz of watermelon blend, refrigerate until for one month or until ready for use.

With the remaining 8oz of the watermelon blend, remove 1 oz. Add the 1 oz blended watermelon juice to four leaves of fresh mint. Muddle them together. Then add the rest of the 7oz of watermelon blend to the muddled mint juice. Shake until flavors are incorporated. Triple strain. Let settle for 5 minutes. Discard excess froth at the top of the mixer. Use immediately.

When ready, add additional 4 fresh mint muddled mint leaves to 1 oz of the previously stored watermelon blend for freshness and the follow steps above.

Garnish: With a skewer, thread one fried chicken wing, then a mini cheddar jalapeño waffle, topped with two grilled watermelon balls through the rind of the baby watermelon half. Do not poke a hole through the watermelon. Serve with a straw.

Glassware: 1/2 Hollowed Personal (Baby) Watermelon
