About Historic Neir’s Tavern
At 191 years old, Neir’s Tavern is one of the oldest, most historic, and continuous operating bars (Prohibition notwithstanding) in the country. It’s known to be home to Mae West’s first performance, scenes from Goodfellas, and countless other remarkable moments in history.
Neir’s was first founded in October 1829 in Woodhaven, Queens as The Blue Pump Room by Cadwallader R. Colden, manager of the famed Union Course Race Track that was across the street. The bar went through four different owners and three establishment names throughout the centuries (1835 – The Old Abbey, 1851 – The Old Abbey , 1898 – Neir’s Social Hall, 1980 – The Union Course Tavern) until Jamaican born Loycent Gordon, a firefighter, bought the bar in 2009 and renamed it Neir’s Tavern.
Known for its community based atmosphere, Neir’s Tavern is a go-to destination for a casual drink, a hearty meal, and good company.
