Black Restaurant Week Embraces the Culture of Healthy Cooking in New Orleans

National culinary organization hosts virtual culinary demonstrations in response to the health concerns of the African American community

NEW, ORLEANS LA (April 20, 2020) Black Restaurant Week LLC, the organization responsible for celebrating the flavors of African American, African and Caribbean cuisine nationwide with a series of regional cultural events, is hosting a virtual week dedicated to showcasing how to eat healthy with New Orleans inspired cuisine. Daily cooking demonstrations will take place live on social media to teach healthy cooking habits to the African American community.

Audiences are interested in connecting with the community while social distancing. Black Restaurant Week is hosting virtual happy hours to provide insight and entertainment about the culinary industry. This creates an opportunity to keep the community engaged virtually during the COVID Pandemic. Unfortunately, the African American community has taken a hard hit during the pandemic due to pre-existing health conditions. This has highlighted the need for the African American community to address the improvement of healthy eating and cooking habits. Black Restaurant Week is partnering with New Orleans restaurants and chefs to teach the community how to cook healthy in their homes.

Black Restaurant Week will host the following Facebook Live culinary demonstrations:

“Once we know better we can do better as a community, and educating people on ways to incorporate healthy lifestyle choices is a start,” Managing Partner Derek Robinson said. “The New Orleans culinary community is so talented, so we are excited for the opportunity to showcase how they are feeding healthy options to their local community.”
